If you’re anything like me, I like to start my morning off with a delicious smoothie! Rain or shine, I have my handy dandy smoothie ready to go. Just like some people do with coffee, a smoothie gives me my energy and sustenance to stay active, healthy and productive throughout the day. I find, especially in the winter months, I need to add just a little more than usual as the days get shorter and my energy starts to drag as the cold weather starts to set in. However, There is no shame in adding some healthy goodness to your smoothie each morning to add just a little more pep in your step no matter the season.
Whether you are making one at home, or grabbing one on the go, here are some awesome things you can be adding each and every day to your smoothie.
E3 Live is a blue-green Algae that grows in the mineral-dense lake of Klamath Lake in Oregon. This blue-green Algae is actually 8 x more chlorophyll than wheatgrass. You are also able to digest and absorb more to the nutrients in this than you would if you were to take a wheatgrass shot. It also contains 65 vitamins and minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids making it the most nutrient dense food known to man. As if that’s not enough to convince you to run and put it in your smoothie right now, it also helps increases mental focus, strengthens your immune system, and is a natural long-lasting energy boost.
Blue Majik, a sister to E3 Live, helps to support a healthy inflammation response in your body. It helps with a quicker response time after a workout, supports healthy joints, is high in antioxidants, and increases energy and endurance as well as a mood and energy booster. I love to add this to my smoothies. Not only does it have amazing health benefits, but it also makes any smoothie just that much prettier with its blue color. I also like to add it to water with lemon and honey if I don’t get to put it in my smoothie that day.
Now, this stuff is amazing. I tend to feel like my smoothies alone don’t fill me up, or a few hours later I feel hungry again. One scoop of this stuff in my smoothie in the morning and I actually feel full and have enough energy to take on the day! MCT, which stands for Medium Chain Triglycerides is derived from coconut oil. Which is a healthy fat that helps boost energy, maintain a healthy weight, burn fat, and improve cognitive function. This is by far one of my favorites to add to any smoothie, especially in the mornings. My husband always puts this in his smoothie + uses it as a meal replacement and he swears by it.
When I first heard about this one it sounded as interesting as you probably think it sounds right now. However, the more I looked into it, I realized why there is so much excitement around this. Bee pollen is actually known to reduce inflammation, act as an antioxidant, boosts the immune system, Aide in the relief of menopausal Symptoms, and boosts liver health. Making bee pollen another amazing thing that bees have to offer the world.
WARNING: if you are allergic, or aren’t sure if you are allergic to bees or bee pollen, do not consume this as it can cause anaphylaxis and can be very dangerous.
Fun fact: Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body, so replenishing it is super important! Adding it to your smoothie or even your daily coffee can help improve your skin health, relieve joint pain, boost muscle mass, and help support a healthy heart!
There are some amazing brands of collagen supplements and powder out there on the market and even some that double as a creamer for your coffee. I would recommend this to anyone.
Maca has a slew of health benefits that can benefit just about anyone. It is really rich in antioxidants making it a superfood. It is also known to improve moods and reduce stress. Give me a whole pound in my smoothie, please! But it doesn’t stop there! For those of you who may be in school or even have a job that takes a lot of brain power, Maca is also known to improve your memory and learning and/or focus. Even better, it helps regulate women hormones and increased your libido and virility. With a light caramelly flavor, I like to add this to my smoothies that have more savory ingredients like Peanut Butter or almond butter. If you don’t have this in your arsenal of things to add to your smoothie then you are lacking my friend.
This one is also for the ladies. Raw Cacao powder is 40 times higher in Antioxidants than blueberries, Iron, Magnesium, AND Calcium. It also helps eliminate inflammation and is one of the best natural “Antidepressants”. So both your body AND mind will thank you for feeding it. It really is the superfood of superfoods! However, don’t confuse this with it’s sweetened sister “cocoa”. it is really important to make sure you are getting the right kind of Cacao Powder in order to maximize the benefits. Non-alkalized Cacao Powder or dark chocolate containing more than 70% Cacao Powder are some of the best options on the market. Instead of feeling guilty when you sneak a chocolate bar every now and again (We all do it) make a smoothie with Raw Cacao Powder in it instead!
I know this may feel like no brainer, but getting greens in your smoothie is more important than you may think. For instance, kale is not only a great source of fiber and other important vitamins such as Iron, Vitamin K, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Calcium, but it is also a natural detoxifier and really rich in Antioxidants and Anti-inflammatory properties. Making it worth so much more than just to eat (or drink) something green.Similarly, spinach Contains high levels of potassium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Iron, and more importantly, Magnesium. Most Americans are lacking or deficient in magnesium and when that happens it can wreak havoc all throughout your body. Spinach is also a rich source of Beta-Carotene, Lutein, and Xanthene which translates into better eyesight.
Even though these things are small, they really pack a punch. They are a great source of energy and even help aid in weight loss as well as a rich source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Rich in antioxidants. They are also a great source of Fiber, Iron, Calcium as well as protein.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this, although Cannabidiol, or more commonly known as CBD oil, is an extract of the cannabis plant it will NOT get you high. CBD is from the Hemp plant that has little to no psychoactive chemicals known as THC.
If you are worried about the legal implications of CBD oil, worry not. Although there are a lot of restrictions in many states when it comes to CBD Oil, including Idaho, there are many companies that are working hard to create 100% pure CBD oil.
As long as the CBD oil contains no THC there are no restrictions or legal implications for obtaining and using CBD oil.
So why is CDB so important? CBD is said to offer a wide range of benefits for both health and medical purposes. Adding just a few drops to your smoothie or even under your tongue every night as I do, can improve your health immensely. Many people with chronic illnesses have seen incredible improvements in their health. For instance, many people who have epilepsy or chronic seizures have seen less severe and less frequent seizures when they consume CBD oil. As someone with chronic pain and anxiety, CBD oil has helped me in tremendous ways. Not only has it made me a more functional member of society, but it has helped me gain back control of my life AND my body.
*Before buying and consuming CBD oil, make sure to check the local laws and restrictions to make a well-informed decision*
My husband, Austin and I enjoying an Acai Bowl and Organic Juice from Boise Juice Co.
Regardless of if you are drinking one every morning or every once in a while, it’s always good to add a little something to any smoothie you’re drinking. You can also get a majority of these added into your smoothie at many local shops. For instance, Boise Juice Co has a great variety of healthy alternatives to add into your bowl or smoothie. Many of which go mostly undetected in your smoothie. Visit their website or one of their storefronts to find out more! www.boisejuice.com
